商代铜器的主要金属成分是铜、锡和铅，从测定结果看，各个时期的不同器物在合金比例上并不一致。商代早期的一件铜爵经测定含铜92%，锡7%，而另一件锛则含铜98%，锡只有1%。武汉市黄陂区盘龙城出土的商代中期铜礼器中，有的含铜81～88%，锡5～8%，铅1～6%；有的含铜71%，而铅则高达21～24%。
