铜雕的制作一般都要经过金属冶炼、锻造、雕刻、镀金、磨光、上红等几个重要的工序。工序比较复杂，工艺也十分考究。铜雕的铸造方法有两种，即失蜡和模具法。

其做法是：先用蜡制成模型，内外用泥填充固定，使之成为整体的铸型。再加热将蜡融化，让蜡模全部流失，形成空腔铸模，封上出蜡口，浇入金属溶液，冷却后，打掉填充的泥，就能得到与蜡膜相同的成型铸件。
